Friday 30 September - Excursion to Gozo
09:00: A coach will be waiting near the Hilton Hotel for those participants joining the Gozo tour.
09:15: Bus will leave from the Hilton Hotel to Valletta next to the Gozo Fast Ferry. Please be checked out and ready to board. The ferry service will take approximately 45 minutes where transport will be organized to take us to the Grand Hotel just minutes away.
10:45: Fast Ferry arrives in Mgarr Gozo. Buses will take the participants and the MSE staff accompanying them to the Grand Hotel, Mgarr, Gozo. Participants will have some time to settle down and freshen up.
11:30: An open bus will pick up the participants near the Grand Hotel, Mgarr, Gozo from where the Gozo tour kicks off.
11:45 - 12:30: A tour of the Ġgantija temples, a megalithic temple complex located in Xagħra, east of Victoria. This Unesco World Heritage site is older than the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge. Ġgantija ” means “giant” in Maltese. Gozitan people were convinced that only giants could have been able to carry and put together such massive rocks. Some of them weigh more than 5 tons and are 5 metres long. Even today, no one really knows for sure how these rocks got there. The site is made up of 2 temples: the South and the North one. Both form a vast 40 metres long and 6 metres high complex. There is also a small museum with fascinating information about the site and artefacts found there.
12:45 - 13:30: Lunch. A light Maltese lunch of local wine, cheese, delicious Maltese bread and cold anti-pasta at the Çitadella in Victoria.
13:30 - 14:15: The Çitadella tour. A guide will walk us through the Cathedral museum, the old prison, the Grain Silos, the Battery and the WWII Shelter. Along the winding streets, we will find the historic Chapel of St. Joseph and a number of holy niches (shrines) and bass reliefs. You will also see well-preserved Norman-style windows and arches, and coat-of-arms that are affixed to the façade of historic houses and church buildings. This very old Citadel also shows its age, partly due to weathering and the toll of time while some is the deliberate work of Napoleon’s troops who briefly occupied the island at the end of the eighteenth century.
14:15 - 15:15: Sight seeing tour around Gozo to explore the island of Gozo in style on a sightseeing bus. Discover popular landmarks such as Ramla beach, Marsalforn and Xlendi bay.
16:30: Back to the Grand Hotel, Mgarr, Gozo where we will have time to freshen up, rest and relax, in time to be in the hotel lobby by 1900 for transport to dinner.
18:45: A coach will be at the Grand Hotel, Mgarr, Gozo to take the group to dinner at The Country Terrace restaurant, Mgarr, Gozo
19:30 - 22:00: Dinner. Expect a lovely 4-course Mediterranean dinner, with free flowing wine and excellent food.
22:15: Transport back to the hotel and a peaceful night after what will be a very eventful day.
Kindly note that for participants not staying for the dinner in Gozo, a Fast Ferry Boat will leave from Mgarr Harbour, Gozo at 17:15hrs and will arrive in Valletta at 18:00hrs. For those joining us for the dinner but not staying overnight, a Fast Ferry Boat will be available at 22:30hrs from Mgarr Harbour, Gozo, arriving in Valletta at 23:15hrs. MSE staff will assist participants with transport arrangements.
Saturday 1 October
12:00: Hotel Check Out. Since some may decide to spend additional time in Gozo, you will have to make arrangements for transport back to Malta or to the airport. However, Malta Stock Exchange staff along with the Grand Hotel staff will be happy to assist you in making these arrangements. Have a safe trip home!
